Ring Tone Creation
Monster Truck ProjectYou have been hired by Dorton Arena Marketing Firm to help promote their next big event: The Monster Truck Rally and Sesame Street Wrestling Tournament. You will create an advertisement that contains several different special effects to add interest and emphasis.
Inside this Project Folder, you will find the Monster Truck Audio. Download it to your computer and import it into GarageBand. Using the Script as a guide, cut the audio clip at the specified points and only keep what is included in the script. Place each section of the script on a different track. Add sound effects, background music, and other add-ons to make your advertisement sound attractive and interesting. Using the track editing features in GarageBand, add things such as reverb, echo, flange, and many other effects to help add emphasis to the different phrases of the advertisements. Also, download the audio clip of Elmo talking trash and place voiceovers at the end of your advertisement. See the second page of the script for a little guidance. Once you have finished work on this project, check the rubric located below to make sure you have completed all of the project requirements. Save the .BAND file and name it lastname +firstname + period# + monstertruck. Using the Share menu on GarageBand, export the file with MP3 encoding and name it the same thing. When ready, submit your files to your teacher. |
In order to turn on the effects you have to hit A on your keyboard to display the options for this project.

Billy Bob ProjectYou have been hired by Billy Bob's Auto Sales as an advertising specialist. Mr. Billy Bob himself is wanting you to record his next radio commercial and edit it down to sound professional and appealing.
Inside this Project Folder, you will find an audio recording (in MP3 format) of Billy Bob's voice, telling the people about his good deals and fine customer service down at his car dealership. You have also been provided with a script of what the radio commercial should end up sounding like. Unfortunately, Mr. Billy Bob is not so good at recording himself, and has made a lot of errors during the process. Your job is to import the MP3 file into GarageBand, listen to the audio and cut it down to match the script exactly. Using CMD + T, you can splice the audio file into sections and get rid of the parts that do not match the script. Once you have matched the audio to the script, pull it all together into one seamless radio commercial sound byte. Finally, add sound effects that make the advertisement relevant and appealing. Once you have finished the project, check the rubric located directly below this to make sure you have completed all of the project requirements. Save the GarageBand Project and "Share" it as an MP3 file. Name the file lastname + firstname + period# + billybob. When ready, submit your files to your teacher. |

Foley the Video Project
A common career in the audio production industry is creating and incorporating sound effects into existing videos to make them seem more realistic and interesting. This type of job is called a Foley Artist - find out more information by clicking the first link to the right ------------------------->
Virtually every movie you've ever seen uses sound effects created by a Foley artist. Watch the videos found the the right -------------> In this project, you will become a Foley Artist as you add real-life sound effects to an otherwise silent nature video. The goal of the sound effects are to make the video more realistic and entertaining - reaching more of the viewers' senses and capturing the audience more effectively. Download the video located on the right. You will see a nature scene with water, animals, a train traveling through the mountains, and an airplane flying into the sunset. Also included on the right are some sound effects that will be helpful and a list of GarageBand loops that work well with the given video. You are to incorporate sound effects and background music into the video to help it appear more realistic. You can find additional sound effects on-line to add more realism to your project. Remember your audio levels should all sound the same, but that your background music should be low in the background and not overpower your natural sounds. As you work, save your project as a GarageBand project file (.BAND) and name it Last name +Firstname + period# + foley. When you are finished, export it using Share>Export Song to Disk menu and name the output file the same name (ex: scogginsemilysong1.MP3). When ready, submit your files to Mrs. Scoggins via Air Drop. Don't forget to review the rubric to make sure you are meeting all of the project requirements! |

Create a Foley Story ProjectUsing the Loops and sounds in Garage Band create a 60 sec scene of sounds to create a story with sound effects and music. You can even retell a story of a MOVIE or a SCENE from A MOVIE that you are familiar with. IT CANNOT BE A MADE UP STORY. Do not use any dialog, only instrumental and sound effects. Use multiple layers to enhance the way your Foley sounds, sometimes to achieve the sound you want it takes many layers. You should have sounds layered during the entire 60 seconds. Use the rubric to check your work before turning it in. When ready, submit your files to Ms. Scales via Air Drop as Lastname + Firstname + period# + FoleyMovie (ex: scalesemily1stfoley harrypotter).
Listen to the example here, it is a lot longer than what you are doing, but its an example. Can you guess the movie I used? |

Group Album ProjectYou have decided to start your own music group with a couple of your classmates (4-5 students per group - see embedded file to the right to view group assignments). For this project, you will join forces with your band mates and create an album filled with all original audio productions that you create in GarageBand. Your music group will also design an album cover, and back cover with track list and artist, using Photoshop.
Each group member must create TWO original audio productions in GarageBand. You will use the loops provided by the software. Each individual song must end up being at least 1:30 long. Collaborate with your group members to make sure all of your group's songs fall under the same genre of music! Each group member must also take part in designing the album cover and track list in Photoshop.
After your group has completed all of the original songs and designed the album cover, use GarageBand to export each song in MP3 format and give it a descriptive name. Place all of the songs and designs into 1 folder to turn into Ms. Scales. Check the rubric provided below to make sure your group's album is meeting all of the project requirements! Submit your finalized group album to Ms. Scales for grading. Finally, complete the Peer Evaluation Survey located to the right. |
